Developing Reflective Practice

UNE grad Caroline Chittum, Director of Nursing Education and Professional Development at MaineHealth Deb Kramlich, and Jen Gennaco (SASC) discuss reflective practice.

Reflecting with purpose is a powerful way to think about what you learned. In professions like Nursing, reflection is integral to professional development (see the video “Why Develop Reflective Practice?” (linked above). In most professions, reflection plays a role in goal-setting and measuring progress toward one’s goals.

The term “reflection” may be defined in many ways, ranging from description to analysis. Researchers such as John Dewey and Carol Rodgers have identified phases of reflection to promote growth in thinking and learning.
